Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour For the main dough
  • 1/4 cup sugar To sweeten the dough
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast Active dry yeast can be used, but should be proofed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk Warm for mixing
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg To enrich the dough

Filling and Topping

  • 1/2 cup blueberry jam Can be substituted with other jams
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon For flavoring the filling
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened For the frosting
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar For the sweetness in frosting
  • 1/4 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen) To fold into the frosting

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, warm the milk and melted butter, then stir in the egg.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Assemble the Rolls

  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread with blueberry jam, and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Roll up the dough tightly and cut into 12 slices.
  • Place the slices in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Bake the Rolls

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.

Prepare the Frosting

  • Beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth, then fold in the blueberries.
  • Drizzle the frosting over the warm rolls and serve.

Notes

Proofing is important for the dough. If your house is cold, place the dough near a warm oven. You can use frozen blueberries for the frosting without thawing them.
