  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 blend recommended for juiciness
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped adds flavor
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced for crunch
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced for added flavor
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard adds a zing
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika for smokiness
  • ½ tsp salt adjust to taste
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp butter for flavor
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour for thickening
  • ¾ cup warm milk treat gently
  • 1 cup shredded provolone or white American cheese for cheesiness
  • 4 pieces brioche or hamburger buns, toasted for serving
  • 1 tbsp butter, for toasting buns
  • Extra slices provolone or cheddar cheese optional for extra cheesiness

Cooking

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and break it up until browned (about 5 minutes). Drain excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion, diced bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until softened (about 3-4 minutes).
  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  • In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in warm milk until smooth. Add shredded cheese and stir until melted.
  • Butter the insides of each bun and toast in a hot pan for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  • Assemble by spooning the beef mixture onto toasted buns, pouring cheese sauce on top, and adding extra cheese if desired.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy the chaos!

Notes

Best enjoyed hot, pair with fries or a salad for added crunch. Can substitute turkey or different cheeses as per taste.
